Enable Windows Imaging Acquisition Service (WIA) driver :

WIA is a Microsoft model that enables computer graphics to interact with imaging devices such as scanner and cameras. If your scanner stops working, you should allow WIA service on your desktop. Here’s what you have to do:

  1. Click the Windows logo button on your keyboard and R simultaneously to invoke the Run box.
  2. Type the.msc services and click OK.
  3. Down click Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) and double-click it. Make sure that the startup type is automatically set and the service status running in the pop-up pane.
  4. If the status of the service is already in progress, click Stop to stop it, then click Start to restart the service.
  5. To save the modifications, click Apply and OK.

Then restart your machine. Try using your HP scanner again to see whether it works now.

If your HP scanner problem continues, follow these measures to allow for more services:

  1. Press the Windows logo key on your keyboard, and R at the same moment to invoke the Run box.
  2. Type the.msc services and click OK.
  3. Ensure that the services are automatically set and the status of the service is running.
  •       Call Remote Procedure RPC.
  •       Launcher DCOM Server Process.
  •       RPC Mapper Endpoint.
  •       Hardware Detection Shell.

INFORMATION: The Windows Image Acquisition service (WIA) relies on the Shell Hardware Detection Service, and the Hardware Detection Service relies on these services: Remote Procedure Call RPC, DCOM Server Process Launcher, and RPC Endpoint Mapper, respectively.

  1. Save the modifications and attempt again to see if your scanner works.
