HP WebScan

The current Web Scanner tool was not helped by all the browsers and expected to modify the methodology. The Advanced Web Scan Service gives a more stable and enriched method of scanning pictures. Clients can download the Advanced Web Scanner Service on their customer machines. And can configure the switch for saving the scanned pictures on the local system or server (TIFF files will always be saved on the server as they are utilized for OCR processing). Another switch can be configured for the delayed agreement if you need to utilize the existing method.

Also, a major improvement in the Advanced Web Scanner Service is that the service will presently support both the rules HTTPS and HTTP. The service works on a particular port range described in the application for HTTPS (60001 to 60005) and HTTP (50001 to 50005). Through the installation, the installer will allocate a port ready for each rule to run the service. Configuring the HTTPS rules needs to send a certificate on the consumer machine. For detailed data, read the whole article.

The scanning tool in the Advanced Web Scanner Service is related as it was back; the only modification in the UI is the drop-down list showing the installed Scanners alternatively of the Source button.

The client can also see data about groups performed via Web Scanner. For this design, a pop-up window is shown once the batch scanning is finished and the complete button is tapped on the Web Scanner screen. The scanning finish pop-up includes the following data:

Batch Instance Id
Batch Instance Name
Batch Instance Description
Batch Page Count

The pop-up window also includes a cookie-based “Don’t ask me again” choice. Once this choice is chosen, the pop-up will not be shown upon scanning finish.

Configure the Advanced Web Scanner Switch
Move to Ephesoft >>Application >> WEB-INF
Unbox your web.xml file in your local editor.
By error, then turn ON. It is not, Switch on the Advanced Web Scanner Switch:
Here will redirect the Web Scanner URL from /webscanner.html to the Advanced Web Scanner URL i.e. /advancedwebscanner.html.
Note: Switch off the advanced web scanner switch from the web.xml file if you need to utilize the current scanning mechanism. (Value = OFF)
Install the Web Scanner service

If you are working the application on a user machine and have admin rights, you can install the (WSS) from the application UI itself. You do not own the admin rights, you can also go with the standard installation method.

Installing from the Application Interface:

Opinion – You own the admin rights on the user’s computer.

Go to the purpose homepage and click on Web Scanner.
If the Advanced Web Scanner turns ON, the application will verify whether the WSS is established and working on your local computer.
If the service is not established (working), a popup message arrives with an OK and Download Service button.
Tap on OK if the service is not up and Download Service if not established.
By tapping on Download Service, it will open a new tab and begin downloading the installer.
Once your installer is downloaded, work the installer manually to install the service on your local computer.
The establishment will allocate a port for each rule (HTTPS and HTTP) to the service and get the service up.

Installing from the Ephesoft directory:

Theory –You have the Ephesoft server established on your machine and have admin powers.

In this fact, you can introduce the service from the application UI, as well as of the Ephesoft directory.

Move to Ephesoft>> SharedFolders
In this folder, you will locate the installer – EphesoftScannerService.msi
The open command helps an Administrator and establishes the service.
MSI exec /I EphesoftScannerService.msi
Configuring the Advanced Web Scanner over HTTPS

The HTTPS rules are allowed in the Advanced Scanner Service to bypass Mixed Content errors. When a client visits a page worked over HTTPS, their association with the Web Server is encrypted with TLS and is therefore secure from beak and man-in-the-middle strikes. If the HTTPS page adds content recovered by regular, clear text HTTP, then the connection is only somewhat encrypted; the unencrypted substance is available to the nozzle and can be changed by man-in-the-middle aggressors, so the connection is not secure. When a web page shows this way, it is called a mixed substance page. So, if the Ephesoft server is working over HTTPS and a web scanner is utilized then everything should work without the mixed substance error. Also, it is expected that the Ephesoft server is working over HTTPS with a valid and authenticated certificate.

Since the Advanced Web Scanner (AWS) Service will forever perform over the client’s local area i.e. localhost, no third person will give a valid signed SSL certification. This is because: –

Misconfigured devices live, in the wild, that remain for lookups before solving localhost from /etc/hosts.
If a router determines localhost. foo. local, it may reason localhost to resolve wrongly (you’ve seen this class of error before).

Due to the above cause, Ephesoft has expressed its document on which the service would be working. The root document of Ephesoft wants to be introduced in all the browsers as a committed CA certificate for everything to work as expected. It is ready at “EphesoftScannerService.

Send the Certificate on Chrome
Open your Browser.
Move to Settings.
Tap on Advanced Setting.
Scroll down to part ‘HTTPS/SSL’.
Tap on Manage Certificate.
Move to tab ‘Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
Tap-on Import.
Follow the wizard with all fault values.
End the browser and reopen it to utilize Web Scanner.

Send the Certificate to Mozilla

Start the browser.
Move to Options >> Advanced.
Click on ‘ View Certificates’.
Move to the ‘Authorities’ tab.
Click-on Import.
Browse to the place of ‘Ephesoft-Browser-Cert.crt’
Verify all the choices in the ‘Downloading Certificate’ pop-up.
Click OK and end all the pop-ups.
Stop the browser and reopen it to utilize Web Scanner.
Send the Certificate on Internet Explorer
Start the browser.
Move to Tools.
Move to Internet Options.
Move to the Content tab.
Tap-on certificates.
Move to tab ‘Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
Tap-on Import.
Observe the wizard with all fault values.
End the browser and reopen it to do Web Scanner.
Send CACERT to local Keystore

If self-signed certifications are being utilized to configure the Advanced Web Scanner(AWS), the steps here must be followed.

If your document is signed by a real professional, the steps here may not be required unless authentication errors continue after installation.

Since certificates being utilized are self-signed certificates thus these documents must be sent as Advanced Root Certificates on Web Scanning Machine (where Ephesoft Web Scanner Service is doing)

Open certmgr.msc and choose Trusted Root Certification Authorities, please send the following documents:
a. Cacert.pem created while creating server documents. (CACERT is certificated and serves as a Certificate Signing Authority). Documents being utilized for configuring Ephesoft Server are approved by this created Certificate Authority (CACERT), thus sending this document as a trusted root certification on the user computer makes it true for contact with the customer and the server. Please refer to the screenshot document and HTTPS seems to be original to the browser.
b. Send Ephesoft-Browser-Cert.crt now in the Ephesoft Scanner Service installation folder as a trusted root certificate. This level is also expected to make contact between Web Scanner users (browser) and Ephesoft Web Scanner Server (private) valid.
Please refer to the screenshot certificate and HTTPS seems to be original to the browser.
The next step is to send the self-signed CA (CACERT) created earlier in Ephesoft Web Scanner Service JRE Keystore utilizing the command helps.
Find and drive to concerts found at < Ephesoft Scanner Service>jrelib protection.
keytool -importcert -Keystore jr lib security cacerts -storepass modify it -alias ephesoft root CA -file cacert.poem
Please change the path of cacerts and cacert. pem respectively.
Restart the Ephesoft Web Scanner Service.
Please assure you to reach Ephesoft Server with a similar hostname as was used during creating the server document otherwise the information will become vulnerable and the browser may not permit unsafe communication.
Use external CA-signed documents to configure Web Scanner for HTTPS

If you don’t need to use the self-signed document given by Ephesoft for the Web Scanner, you can understand the steps here to return the self-signed document in the Web Scan establishment with your document:

Place the Web Scan Service by following the instruction outlined in section 1.2 “Install the Web Scanner Service” before.
Close the Web Scanner Service.
Install your server certificate.jks (server authentication with .jks extension) inside the Web Scanner Service (WSS) establishment directory and rename it to self.jks
Modify the value of the business server.ssl.key-store from classpath: self.jks to just self.jks
Send the cacert.pem (Root CA certificate with .pem addition, documents with .crt and .cer extension can also be utilized) inside the Keystore cacert now inside the folder
Open the parts file immediately inside the folder WebScanner_Installation_Directoryconfigapplication.properties in any text editor.
Modify the use of the assets server.ssl.key-password to the original password of the server certificate (self. jks).
WebScanner_Installation_Directoryjrelibsecurity by completing the below guidance in the windows command prompt(cd):
keytool -import -alias alias -file certificate_file_name -Keystore keystore_name
Begin the Web Scanner Service.
Local Storage Switch

Every time you start scanning pictures and each scanned picture is stored in three various formats:

TIFF – for group processing.
JPG – for viewing the picture in large size in the top panel of web scanner UI.
Thumbnail JPG – for viewing the picture in thumbnails in the central panel of web scanner UI.

In the current web scanning mechanism, all the scanned pictures were saved at the server.

If the user begins scanning with a Scanner Form should Local Storage allow, then another service (insert, rescan, etc.) cannot be made by a different Profile having Local Storage disabled?

If the client is on the Review/Validation Screen and making any progress like rescanning or inserting, and drives to the Web Scanner Screen. The Local Storage switch will be “Off” careless of the Profile and the scanned files will work on the server.

Configure Timeout

If the Local Storage Turn ON your system is unused for Timeout duration (no scanning process is done), then the application itself removes all the pictures and folder where show pictures are saved and the user will have to restart the scanning method.

You can configure the timeout settings:

Move to EphesoftApplicationWEB-INFclassesMETA-INF
Start the application.properties file in your local editor.
Modify the timeout settings in the field – webscanner_toolkit_session_timeout.

By error, it is set to 30 minutes.

webscanner_toolkit_session_timeout =30

Error Handling

If any error happens while working on any scanning process, the relative error information will pop up.

But in the fact of a Paper current supported scanner, the error message may open in the background of the application UI. So, it is suggested to allow the Error Recovery Guide during installing the driver so that the error notification issues are on the taskbar.

If you are experiencing issues with the scanning method or the scanner service becomes unusable, ensure to verify that the Multi Transfer Scanner Profile property is set to “true” (this relates to all the Scanner Profiles utilized in a Group Class through scanning). This feature is accessible on the Scanner Profiles screen, particularly to each Batch Class. While the Default Profile has a Multi Transfer feature that is allowed automatically, the client has to assure that it is set to “true” when copying or creating new Profiles.

DPI settings suggested for Scanning:

Black and White Picture – It is suggested to set the resolution to 200 DPI. If set above 200 DPI, buffering may happen.

Grey Scale – It is suggested to set the intention to 200 DPI. If set above 200 DPI, buffering may happen.

Colored – It is suggested to set the intention to 200 DPI. If set above 200 DPI, buffering may happen.

As a one-time activity after establishment of Web Scanner Service (WSS)(in case of Ephesoft Transact application update/ in case of normal good scanner installation / in case the user finds the “INVALID ACCESS” error), it is suggested to take the following steps:

1) Log out from the Ephesoft Transact statement.

2) Open the browser and remove the browser supplies.

3) Restart your Ephesoft Scanner Service.

4) Click the Scanner URL.
